Intermediate Bra-making

The Jewel Series! Ruby, Sapphire, or Amethyst

Cut and Sew Foam Bra-Making Class

In this class, you may decide to choose the Ruby, the Sapphire,or the Amethyst pattern.   This bra lends itself to the profile of the T-shirt bra. You will learn the tricks of the trade to sew up a foam lined cup without the padded look of pre-formed foam cups!  If you have wanted a foam lined bra to “hide the headlights” or to smooth your profile under t-shirts, but you do not care for the padded look of pre-formed foam cups, the Cut and Sew Foam Bra-Making Class is for you!

Cut-and-sew cups have many advantages. Besides being made of a lightweight foam fabric, you can use virtually ANY stretch fabric to cover the cups – even fabrics way too stretchy to use in a regular bra. Best of all, you use your own bra pattern to create the foam cup so all of your lift and shaping is retained. In this class, you will learn the tricks of the trade to sew it up and finish the top edge with a professional look. You must be familiar with the construction of a bra and have a well-fitting bra pattern in order to attend this course.

Rental machines are available for $10 if you don’t want to bring your own machine. Just let us know so we can have one set up for you.

Skill Level

While bra sewing is not difficult, for the Intermediate Bra-making class, it is preferred if you have made a bra before. This  is a good class to take after the Beginner Bra class.

Lesson Plan

Day One

You are going to love the cut and sew foam bra class! In the first day of the class, you are going to see some fabulous cut and sew foam bras that we have sewn, including the Ruby, Sapphire and Amethyst. You’ll see lots of different applications using foam for bras, including lace and fabric overlays, and a shaped lace band.  We will fit you in the jewel bra and/or  we will teach you how to change your well-fitting Classic Bra pattern in order to be used with foam.  Once you have chosen your desired “look” you can choose the foam colour as well as the fabric and lace (if you decide to use lace).   Once your pattern is ready you can cut out the pieces you need to be ready to sew.  We use a slightly different construction sequence with foam, but don’t worry, it is not difficult at all, we will get you started on your foam bra.

Covering your cups with fabric takes a careful and patient touch to get the fabric just right on a foam cup, but after a short time, everyone’s cups look fantastic and they are ready to sew into the already-finished frame.

Day Two

On the second day you will finish your bra and start working on a second bra.  We will show a variety of advanced finishing techniques for your straps, edge finishes with fold-over binding and lace that you can use on your next bra.  You will want to show off your beautiful bra to your friends!  Once again, we love to take pictures of the bras you’ve finished!
