Cotton Corset Coutil Cotton Coutil
Our Cotton Corset Coutil is the genuine, British made, 100% Cotton Coutil with a herringbone weave. Specifically designed and manufactured for corset making, this is the essential fabric for making a strong, lasting corset. This is the fabric that will give your corset structure and the strength it needs to lace it tight. The fabric is 58-60″ in width, with virtually no stretch in either direction.
Higher-end corset makers use the fabric as an internal “strength layer” between the outer fashion fabric and inner lining of the corset. Soft cotton or other moisture absorbing fabrics are used as an inner lining, for maximum comfort. However, the fabric can be used as the corset lining itself, as it is the fabric that is giving the corset its strength and structure. This fabric is more expensive than a cotton canvas or twill, but it is well worth the price. To make a beautiful, lasting corset, use Coutil! The fabric is available in 2 different qualities.
The fabric is available in 2 different qualities, depending on your needs and budget.
Regular Coutil – is less expensive, but still a very good quality fabric. This fabric is perfect for making a high quality corset. The fabric is used under silks or other fine fabrics, as either an internal strength layer or as the lining itself. This fabric is great for almost all corset applications, however, for tight-lacing or daily use, we recommend our Stiff Coutil. Available in White and Black.
Stiff Coutil – is the stronger of the two fabrics. The fabric is more expensive, but this is the one to use if you are making a corset for either tight-lacing or for daily use. This fabric is used as an inner strength layer between the outer fashion fabric and lining. The fabric is also used to line the corset itself. Available in Black.
