Steel Spiral Boning Metal Corset Boning-by the Metre
This Steel Spiral Boning Metal Corset Boning-by the Metre is sold by the metre, allowing you to cut your own custom lengths. It is made of coiled wire (looks like a tiny flattened Slinky toy!). The Boning offers flexibility in every direction, for comfort. At the same time, the Boning offers proper support where needed. The Boning is generally placed along the seams or vertically under the cups in a seamless garment, corset, bustier, or bodice.
This particular boning is sold by the metre, not in pre-cut lengths. Customers purchase this boning instead of the pre-cut Boning, in order to customise the length. Customers using the boning to make corset dresses often use this Boning. After the Boning has been cut, it does need to be tipped to prevent it from poking through your garment. The Boning can be tipped with either our Spiral Boning Tips or our Heat Shrink for Spiral Boning. Both options work well, the Heat Shrink is cut and secured with a heat gun, whereas the tips are pressed onto the ends with pliers.
The Boning is ¼” (6 mm) wide. Sold in full or part metres. It is not zinc coated as our pre-cut Spiral Boning, so be sure to wash your hands often when working with this around light coloured fabrics.
The Metal Corset Boning is primarily used for corsets. This is the recommended boning to use throughout the body of your corset or corset dress. Steel Spiral Boning is by far the best boning to use, as it is flexible and forms to your body. This makes for a more comfortable garment. Unlike Flat Steel Boning, it returns to its original shape once the garment is removed. The Boning can also be used in bodices, long line bras, or bustiers. This is the best quality boning to use in any garment that requires structure.
How to Use:
Simply cut the Boning to the desired length with a strong pair of wire cutters or bolt cutters. Use either our Spiral Boning tips or Heat Shrink for Spiral Boning to seal the ends. The ends must be tipped, as they are sharp when cut. It is not zinc coated as our pre-cut Spiral Boning, so be sure to wash your hands often when working with this around light coloured fabrics.
