Everyone wants to improve their bra-making skills, right? How can you do that on your own? One way is to challenge yourself each month with a new fabric you’ve never sewn before, or a pattern you’ve never made before. You’ll learn techniques you never thought you could master by making something outside of your comfort zone. We are pleased to announce our Ultimate Bra-makers Challenge and it is open to anyone who loves to sew intimate apparel.

Our idea is simple – each month starting on January 1, we will give you a theme with a challenge to complete by the end of the month. The challenge will be to use a new fabric or a new pattern chosen from Bra-makers Supply (yes, we will discount those items!) You can submit photos of the finished project to enter the challenge. Tag us on Instagram and Facebook @bramakerssupply and use the hashtag #bramakerschallenge2018.  You’ll be inspired by the entries and others will be glad you post your things too. The winner will be chosen before the end of the month and the entries displayed on our social media. Each monthly winner will receive a $25 gift certificate from Bra-makers Supply. How easy is that? Plus, anyone who enters all 12 challenges will receive a special prize!

Here are the themes for 2018, just to give you an idea of what’s ahead…

Ultimate Bra-makers Challenge 2018

January – Celebrate Colour of the Year – make any intimate apparel project using the colour of the year or the closest colour to it, which is our Lilac, almost a cross between lilac and purple.

February –  Love yourself – make any bra, bralette or panties using red stretch satin

March – Spring Splash! – try your hand at swimwear, use any of our swimsuit, tankini or bikini patterns to make swimwear.

April – Hop to It! – this is all about activewear. We challenge you to make activewear from Maxine, Supplex, or wickable performance fabrics.

May – Shape Up for Summer – how about making shapewear? That includes waist cinchers, bodyshapers and corsets. Craftsy has a great class on shapers with the pattern included.

June – Take Pride! Yes, it’s Pride month and we are using the Colours of Pride. Yep – the Pride rainbow has to be incorporated into your intimate apparel

July – Your Birthday Suit! If someone said” wear your birthday suit” what would you wear? See how nearly nude you are willing to go when this month, you work with sheer fabrics.

August – Lacey Days of Summer! Are you still with us? This month, use 2 laces to create a bra, bralette, panties or corsets. Two is better than one!

September – Dancing Queen! Have you made dance, ballroom dance, ice dancing, belly dance or burlesque costumes? Here’s your chance to try out your new spandex sewing skills.

October – Your Breast’s Friend! October is Breast Cancer month and we challenge you to make a mastectomy bra and/or a prosthesis for someone you care about.

November – Support Your Man. Men need support too. Show them some love this November by making men’s underwear and see how creative you can get.

December – Let the New You Shine Through! This month, it’s all about the bling. We want to see crystals, jewels and over the top creativity to ring in the new year.

We’ll be posting specifics about each month here on the blog on the last Sunday of the month. We’ll also be revealing the theme in our newsletter. So, if you haven’t signed up for the newsletter, now’s a great time to do that so you won’t miss a thing! Click here to sign up…

On our website, there is a coloured bar. On the right of that bar, there is a link to sign-up for the newsletter. It’s easy to do and you will get our email newsletter the last Tuesday of the month.

I just may give this a go. Been lax in my bra sewing and my lingerie drawer is sadly dilapidated. Sew, while I’m being a Winter Texan, I’ve brought one suitcase full of bra and swimsuit supplies to work on (read:play with) when we have cool and or rainy days. So far, I’ve made 3 Shelley’s, my best fit, but I’m rusty and although wearable, I can do better. I need a challenge.

I hope to have my ‘stuff’ out of storage soon. If so I will try to get back into the swing of things!
