Ah, summer! I remember the song from the 60s…those Lacey Days of Summer….What? Are you saying those were not the words? No matter, our challenge in August is to make intimate apparel from lace. Doesn’t sound like much of a challenge, does it? It is when I tell you, you must use TWO laces in the same garment. That will put your creative skills to the test!

The two laces could be the same lace in different colours, or two entirely different laces. It’s up to you. You can make a bra, bralette, corsets, shapewear or panties. It can be lace fabric or lace edging in any width. As long as there are two different laces visible in the same garment. (No fair using one lace on the bra and another on the panties, for example)

The Challenge guidelines

  • The theme must be obvious. In this case, the theme is the Lacey Days of Summer, so it’s got to be intimate apparel made from two different laces. Any colour, any style, any design.
  • You can use or modify one of the Pin-up Girls patterns or draft something based on the Bra-makers Manuals.
  • The garment must have been completed during 2018.
  • There will be special prizes for those who have entered every challenge during the year

I encourage you to enter this challenge. It’s all about challenging yourself! Send your photos to our email at [email protected] anytime before August 31.  If the garment is complex, submit photos of the more important details.  Entries will be shown on social media (so if you are shy, don’t model it!)  and the winner will be chosen after all entries are in. Remember, the garment does not have to be on a model. You can even show off your entries to all your friends and family on Facebook or Instagram. Please include the hashtag #bramakerschallenge2018 so we can see too!  The winner will be chosen after the challenge closes and the photographs of the entries will be published on this blog and in our social media.

So enjoy the lacey days of summer and start sewing lace(s) this August!
